11-14 December 2022, Singapore
It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 13th International Symposium on Chinese Spoken Language Processing (ISCSLP 2022).
International Symposium on Chinese Spoken Language Processing (ISCSLP) is the flagship conference of SIG-CSLP. It is a biennial conference for scientists, researchers, and practitioners to report and discuss the latest progress in all theoretical and technological aspects of Chinese spoken language processing. It is planned to be held in four Chinese-speaking regions, Singapore, Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, on a rotating basis. The first ISCSLP took place in Singapore in 1998. Since then, it has been successfully held in Beijing (2000), Taipei (2002), Hong Kong (2004), Singapore (2006), Kunming (2008), Tainan (2010), Hong Kong (2012), Singapore (2014), Tianjin (2016), Taipei (2018), and Hong Kong ( 2021).
It is the 4th time that this conference being held in Singapore since its first event in 1998. ISCSLP 2022 is jointly organized by Chinese and Oriental Languages Information Processing Society (COLIPS), Pattern Recognition and Machine Intelligence Association (PREMIA), and National University of Singapore (NUS). The proceedings of the conference will be published by IEEE Xplore. On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to thank IEEE Singapore, Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society (SMC) Chapter for the technical sponsorship.
This year, we received 128 submissions from 9 countries and regions. Eventually, 109 high-quality papers are accepted for presentation at the conference. We are delighted to see the papers cover a variety of topics in speech processing. We are also honoured to have invited three keynote speakers, Dr Jinyu Li from Microsoft, Prof Eng Siong Chng from Nanyang Technological University and Dr Kate Knill from University of Cambridge. The conference also organized 5 tutorials 3 grand challenges on various advanced topics.
The organizing committee includes over 30 members from multiple countries and regions. We would like to thank everyone for their great effort. Special thanks go to the technical program chairs, Dr Kong AIk Lee and Prof Hung-yi Lee, for their tremendous effort in coordinating the paper review and the development of the technical program, the publication chairs Dr Yanfeng Lu for the effort on the publication of the proceedings, the finance chair Dr Lei Wang and Dr Yan Wu for managing the conference finance, and the local organization chair, Dr Yi Zhou, Dr Min Yuan, Ms Celine Cheong, and Dr Paul Chan for the dedication to the conference organization issues. We thank the plenary chairs, tutorial chairs, and grand challenge chairs, special session chairs, and the tutorial speakers for their effort in organizing the events. We would like to thank the program committee for their hard work in reviewing all the papers and all the participants for their contributions.
Finally, we are very grateful to the three Gold Sponsors, AIShell, Baidu, and MagicData, for their generous support of the conference.
We hope that you have fruitful discussions and an enjoyable conference.

The 13th International Symposium on Chinese Spoken Language Processing (ISCSLP 2022) is held in Singapore from 11th to 14th Dec 2022. ISCSLP is the flagship conference of SIG-CSLP. It is a biennial conference for scientists, researchers, and practitioners to report and discuss the latest advancement in theoretical and technological aspects of Chinese spoken language processing. The first ISCSLP took place in Singapore in 1998. Since then, it has been successfully held in Beijing (2000), Taipei (2002), Hong Kong (2004), Singapore (2006), Kunming (2008), Tainan (2010), Hong Kong (2012), Singapore (2014), Tianjin (2016), Taipei (2018), and Hong Kong (2021). Considering the COVID-19 restriction remaining in some countries, this year’s ISCSLP is held as a hybrid event.
A two-phase paper submission process was scheduled for ISCSLP 2022. While accepting submissions with the latest research updates, a two-phase submission process eases the paper review workload. In addition to regular submissions, Phase 2 is also meant to accept submissions for special sessions. At the end of the two phases, we received 128 submissions prepared by over 200 authors from 9 countries/regions. The distribution of submissions per country is shown in the bar chart. Given ISCSLP focuses on the Chinese spoken language, it is encouraging to see 12.5% of the submissions from countries other than the four organizing regions/countries – China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan. We managed to garner 365 reviews from 138 experts. Each paper was assigned at least three reviewers. Each reviewer handled three papers on average. Based on the reviews, 109 papers were accepted at an acceptance rate of 85%. These papers will be presented in 14 regular sessions, 2 special sessions, and 3 grand challenge sessions. Two papers will be selected to receive the Best Paper Awards sponsored by the COLIPS CSLP Endowment Fund.

ISCSLP 2022 is a four-day event with fourteen Oral Sessions and two Special Sessions. In addition, the technical program also includes keynote speeches from three distinguished scholars, Dr. Jinyu Li, Prof. Eng Siong Chng, and Dr. Kate Knill. The three keynote speeches cover a wide spectrum of topics, from end-to-end automatic speech recognition to code-switching and spoken grammatical error correction. The program is further enriched by five tutorials and three grand challenges on emergent speech research topics.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the invited keynote speakers, tutorial speakers, grand challenge organizers, special session organizers, and authors for their contribution to making ISCSLP 2022 a successful event. We are indebted to all the reviewers for their voluntary reviews that help improve the quality of our submissions. Finally, we thank all participants for their support of ISCSLP.
