The Chinese and Oriental Languages Information Processing Society (COLIPS), established in 1988, is a non-profit professional academic organization headquartered in Singapore. The society is dedicated to promoting research in the computational processing of Chinese and other Asian languages, and to facilitating international exchange and collaboration in the relevant scientific and technological fields. With a global network of members, COLIPS plays a significant role in fostering collaboration among academia, industry, and research institutions, and has become a key international platform for research and development in language technologies.
COLIPS has long been the organizer and co-organizer of numerous international academic conferences, workshops, and symposiums. Among these, its flagship event — the International Conference on Asian Language Processing (IALP) — is held annually and has become a major international conference in the field of Asian language processing. Over the years, COLIPS has hosted or co-hosted many internationally renowned academic events in Singapore, including APSIPA 2025 (Asia-Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association Annual Summit and Conference), EMNLP 2023 (Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing), ICASSP 2022 (IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing), ASRU 2019 (IEEE Automatic Speech Recognition and Understanding Workshop), INTERSPEECH 2014 (Annual Conference of the International Speech Communication Association), ACL-IJCNLP 2009 (Joint Conference of the Association for Computational Linguistics and the International Joint Conference on Natural Language Processing), as well as multiple editions of ISCSLP (International Symposium on Chinese Spoken Language Processing) and CLSW (Chinese Lexical Semantics Workshop). These academic activities have established COLIPS as a leading academic organization in the Asia-Pacific region in the fields of speech, language, and information processing, as well as artificial intelligence, with a significant influence on the integration of Asian language technologies and AI development. COLIPS is one of the founding members of the Asian Federation of Natural Language Processing (AFNLP).
In addition, COLIPS collaborates with World Scientific Publishing to publish the International Journal of Asian Language Processing (IJALP), continuing to promote academic research and the dissemination of results in Asian language information processing.
