Also, there seem to be at least two other alternatives for registering with Wireless@SG:

1. At the airport information desk in Changi Airport (don't know if this is temporary or airport-only, but they can register you at least)

2. When my (British) mobile roamed onto the SingTel network after I arrived, I got a text message inviting me to call a specific number to set up a Wireless@SG account (haven't tried yet)

Miles Osbourne wrote in to ask about whether this means all conference participants will need a local mobile number to get wireless.

Sorry if the handbook and blog are not clear about this. The Wireless@SG mode of internet access, which is a country wide initiative, requires a local phone number for registration.

However, we *will* have local wireless for attendees in the local conference venue area. So you can be assured that you will be able to get a wireless connection despite not having a local phone number.

Universal Language Translator Engine [buddy] (ULTEmate) should be available soon, according to me[&Lore]. Understandable, you ask? That is much closer than native-sounding (or even humanish); future work spans much of NLP, and at least a bit of the social graph.

The king of fruits in SG also has a unique stance in the supermarkets. They are one (perhaps the only) fruit that is still hawked by durian sellers. Even in your local hi-tech NTUC branch, it is not uncommon to see individual sellers at work!

If you have had durians before in colder climate (US, Europe), hated it, and never tried the fruit in the tropics where it is fresh, you should do yourself a favor and try it again. It's well worth trying for the food lover!

Hey guys! Thanks for your comments.

Yes, Malacca is definitely a must-go place if you want to experience traditional culture and life. The city is a little backward compared to Kuala Lumpur but because of that, it has managed to preserve unique aspects of its culture :)
